CONSIDER THE LILIES

Matthew 6:28-34
6

I heard time and time again as I listened to my Spiritual Father, Wade E. Taylor, and I said it myself over and over throughout many years of Ministry: “The Lord is looking for a People”… and then, in my message I would talk about the “People” The Lord was looking for.

And, today, now more than ever, The Lord is looking for a People! A special kind of People… I’m going to describe them to you here today… Let’s begin in

Song of Solomon 2:14 (KJV)
”O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.”

The way up to a Deeper Relationship with The Lord is not easily found. In fact, it is hidden. It is only found by those who are diligently seeking Him with their whole heart.

The Lord says in Proverbs 8:17 KJV

“I love them that love me; And those that seek me early (diligently) shall find me.”

We need the “Single Eye” of the Dove to find Him. He is in “the secret place of the stairs”. In other words, this Door to another Chamber of The Lord is hidden in the “stairs” or “the ascent” into His Presence. This is speaking of a different realm than our earthly one. It is a realm that flesh cannot ascend to. It is higher than we can go on our own. It takes diligence and determination to find it. You must be looking upwards towards the “secret places of the stairs” to a place that is hidden in “the clefts of the rocks”.

{Find out more about this in my post: THOU HAST DOVES EYES}

But, when you are truly “seeking” it He will know and He will call you “Come up here”… Revelation 4:1

He has called you to another of His Chambers called “Our Garden”.

One of the first things that The Lord did was “to plant a Garden”… Genesis 2:8

“And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.”

Now that The Lord is “Transforming you” into His image he wants to take you into His Heavenly Garden.

When He brought Adam into the Garden He told him to “keep it”. Genesis 2:15 (KJV)

And the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.”

To “dress” it meant to care of it so it would produce what was planted in it. And then, he was to “keep it” meaning to build a Hedge around it to protect and guard it and watch over it and making it a safe place keeping intruders out.

We see this very clearly in the next verse… Song of Solomon 2:15 (KJV)

“Take us (catch) the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.”

It is usually not anything big that spoils the vines in “Our Garden”. No, it is usually “the Little Foxes”… That’s why we must be diligent to keep watching over it, so nothing steals its fruit.

The Lord is looking for a certain kind of person to bring into “Our Garden”.

Song of Solomon 2:16 (KJV)

“My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.”

Let’s look at the second part of the verse first… “He feedeth among the lilies.”

What this verse is saying to us in its deepest meaning is that He finds those whom He befriends and Shepherds “among the Lilies”.

In other words, He is looking for a “Lily Person”

Let’s look at Lily’s in The Bible to discover what kind of person He is looking for.

1 Kings 7:19-22 (NASB)     {Let’s look at The Temple of Solomon}
“The capitals which were on the top of the pillars in the porch were of lily design, four cubits. 20  There were capitals on the two pillars, even above and close to the rounded projection which was beside the network; and the pomegranates numbered two hundred in rows around both capitals. 21  Thus he set up the pillars at the porch of the nave; and he set up the right pillar and named it Jachin, and he set up the left pillar and named it Boaz. 22  On the top of the pillars was a lily design. So the work of the pillars was finished.”

So, the Pillars were Jachin and Boaz and they had a “Crown of Lilies” on top…

Jachin means “He will Establish” and Boaz means “In His Strength”.

The Lord is looking for humble people He can work with.

People who know that it is only “In His Strength” that they can be “Established”.

Let’s look at another place…

1 Kings 7:23-26 (ASV)        [We must go to the Courtyard of Solomon’s Temple]
“And he made the molten sea (of brass) of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and the height thereof was five cubits; and a line of thirty cubits compassed it round about. 24  And under the brim of it round about there were knops which did compass it, for ten cubits, compassing the sea round about: the knops were in two rows, cast when it was cast. 25  It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; and the sea was set upon them above, and all their hinder parts were inward. 26  And it was a handbreadth thick: and the brim thereof was wrought like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily: it held two thousand baths.”

The Sea of Brass was the place where the Priests would go to wash before they entered the Temple. It was supported by 12 Oxen which speaks of “The Government of God” and it was in the “shape was of a Lily.”

Here’s another…

Song of Solomon 5:13 ASV      [Speaking of the King]

“His cheeks are as a bed of spices, As banks of sweet herbs: His lips are as lilies, dropping liquid myrrh.”

His lips being as lilies speaks of the closeness of our relationship with Him. The “liquid myrrh” speaks of “dying to self”… It was given to Jesus at His Birth and put in the cup of wine that was given to Him on the Cross and, He was also embalmed with Myrrh.

One more and then we will tie it all together…

Matthew 6:28-34 (ASV)     [From the Sermon on the Mount]
“And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29  yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30  But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31  Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32  For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33  But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34  Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

And so we see that a Lily Person is all about “Seeking The Kingdom first”.

Now, let’s put all these verses about Lilies together…

As I said, He is looking for a certain kind of person… a “Lily Person”

He is looking for people who do not “lean on their own understanding’ but are like Jachin and Boaz who have the Crown of Lilies on their heads knowing that their own abilities and works cannot establish them or give them true strength. No, as their names say: “He will Establish” us “In His Strength’.

He is looking for those who want to walk in under His Governmental Rule and wash in the Sea of Brass sitting upon the shoulders of the 12 Oxen. As I mentioned, this is where the Priests washed before entering the Temple…

He is looking for True Servants.

Look at John 13:1-17 (ESV)

“Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2  During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, 3  Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, 4  rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5  Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6  He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” 7  Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” 8  Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” 9  Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10  Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” 11  For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.” 12  When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13  You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14  If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15  For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16  Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17  If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

A ”Lily Person” is a Servant just like He is. This is why His lips are like Lilies dripping with Myrrh which symbolizes living out the process of “Dying to Self”. He wants to be close only to those who understand the importance of “Dying to Self” to become a Servant like Him.

Lastly, He is looking for those who are “Seeking The Kingdom First”. Never living a life in “Independence” but living a life full of Trusting in Him… Never letting anything move you from that place of Dependence on Him

We see this in Song of Solomon 8:5 (KJV)

“Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved?”

When we are in our Wilderness Place going through fiery trials we need to “Rise up” from them and keep “Looking unto Jesus”… Because as we do, we experience the fact that it is His Strength that Establishes us.

Let’s go to the last verse…

Song of Solomon 2:17 (KJV)

“Until the day breaks, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.”

There is a mystery in this verse…

This verse could also be read this way:

“Until the day breaks, and the shadows flee away, my beloved will be like a roe or a young hart turning away from the mountains of Bether.”

The Mystery is in the meaning of the “Mountains of Bether”.

The word Bether meansDivision”.

Know this, as long as our hearts are divided The Lord will turn away like a deer that has been startled. Remember, how “cautious” He was looking through the window?

Well, He will not stay where there is a “Divided Heart” but will turn and run away from “the mountains of Bether”. He cannot walk with anyone whose heart is divided.

Remember what the Lord said in Amos 3:3…

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

So, now that we have settled the fact that He is “seeking for Lily People”…

We can go to the first part of Song of Solomon 2:16 (KJV)

“My beloved is mine…”

We are at one of the Foundational verses of The Song of Solomon…

It is one of three that show us the Heart of the Shulamite and, our hearts…

She says: “My beloved is mine” and this reveals her heart…

It’s all about her… she starts off saying “He is mine”. Although she is growing, desiring the sincere milk of The Word, she is still just a “Daughter of Jerusalem”. She is a 30-Fold Christian. Her main interest is in what The Lord can “Give to her”… She does not truly understand or appreciate “Who He Is”.

At this stage in our Christian walk… and we all start here… Self is Number One…

Now, this does not mean that everyone at this stage is “Selfish”…

No, it means that we are all “Self-Centered”… Christ is not yet “The Center of our Lives”.

But, because we have cried out “Draw Me” and we have promised to run after Him with everything we have and we have shown Him that we desire to find that Secret Place of the Stairs… We want to find out where He feeds His flock and want to be with Him there. We have “noticed Him at the window and seen Him through the lattice” we hear Him calling us to “Rise Up and Come Away”!

We continue to cry out to Him; “Draw Me and I will run after Thee”.

We want Him to know that we will put Him first.

We purpose in our hearts that there will be “no division” there but we will seek Him with all of it.

We are determined to be a Servant and wash the feet of others like He did.

And, we will stop trying to have things our own way but instead we will learn to “Die to Self” and come under His Governmental Rule. And so, we pray…

Lord, grant that I may have Dove’s Eyes so my heart is never Divided by the things of the world… Teach me through my Wilderness Times to “look unto You” so I will not just “get through” but will “Rise up and come away with You”!

Teach me to “Die to Self” and become more and more “Humble” every day. Let me remember that it is You who “Establishes me through Your Strength” and not my own. I don’t want to “lean on my own understanding” any longer. I want to “Lean on You”, My Beloved.

Amen
